Big Jullien And His All Star - Riviera Sound No.1

Released first on the french label Riviera then reissued by german label, Sonorama (2009). Ivan Jullien is a french trumpetist and conductor who has composed & arranged over hundreds songs for many french artists like Michel Legrand, Henri salvador, Charles Aznavour, Sacha Distel, Françoise Hardy but also collaborated with great jazzmen as Quincy Jones, Count Basie Orchestra or Dee Dee Bridgewater. In The 60s/70s, he led a big band called Paris Jazz All Stars including some players of this LP. He's surrounded by some of the best french jazz players as Eddy Louiss, Maurice Vander, Michel Colombier, Roger Guérin or Pierre Cullaz. Tracks are composed by Michel colombier and Ivan Jullien except Time Square by Charlie Mingus. Recorded at Studios Barclay, Paris.

Stefano Torossi is a composer, arranger, conductor in charge of several italian soundtracks and TV Shows. Due to legal restrictions, he signed this album under the Jay Richford & Gary Stevan names (Puccio Roelens & Giancarlo Gazzani) and was associated with Sandro Brugnolini to the composition. Titles include groovy sounds (resulting of deep bass, wah wah guitar & Fender Rhodes), Smooth Jazz (reinforced by the string ensemble) & Funky styles, swimming in a cinematic mood, reminiscent of spy movies or the Blaxploitation themes. One of the most unforgettable japanese rare groove masterpiece released under the New Stream In Jazz catalogue For Nippon Columbia Takt Jazz Series. Recorded at the Yamaha Hall in Ginza, Hi-Nology is performed by the greatest japanese trumpeter & his fabulous first quintet featuring Takeru Muraoka, Kunimitsu Inaba, Hiromasa Suzuki plus his brother Motohiko. Hi-Nology is without a doubt, the expression of a Terumasa Hino at the top of his play, inspired by the Miles Davis' work (which is never too far), who indeed, during the same year recorded In A Silent Way, which will launch the electrification in Jazz, and therefore, opening the fusion period. Junior Mance - With A Lotta Help From My Friends

Junior Mance worked with Gene Ammons  between 1947-1949, Lester Young, for Dinah Washington in 1954, played in the first Cannonball Adderley Quintet (1956 -1957), and touring with Dizzy Gillespie big band between 1958-1960. He plays with a young group but composed of talented musicians as Billy Cobham who was sideman for Miles Davis & played in Mahavishnu Orchestra. The album started with a great version of classic song of Sly & The Family Stone band, contains nice groove with good breakbeats, funky piano & raging drumming. Produced by Joel Dorn.

Barney Kessel - Hair Is Beautiful

Rare french jazz LP recorded under Concert Hall label by pianist, arranger & composer, Jean Musy featuring the renowned Hammond B3 organ, brass band & string orchestra. Jean Musy was best known for the arrangements and orchestrations of the famous song "Champs Elysées" recorded in 1969 by Joe Dassin. He composed for many french "variété" artists such as, of course, the singer Joe Dassin or violonist Catherine Lara, evolved in the band of Nino Ferrer during the sixties, and collaborated to over 200 movies soundtracks.  Titles include some of  most popular Ray Charles tunes that contributed to his success (I've Got A Woman, Unchain My Heart, Georgia...), all played and arranged in the pure Soul Jazz style by Jean Musy himself.

S.O.U.L. (for Sounds Of Unity And Love), is an instrumental Soul & Jazz Funk group from Cleveland, formed by Lee Lovett, Gus Hawkins, Paul Stubblefield and Walter Winston. "What is It" is their first record originally released in 1971 on Musicor. The tracklist consists in famous Soul cover songs of Charles Wright, (Express Yourself), Smokey Robinson (Get Ready), Herbie Mann (Memphis Underground), jam sessions such as "Message From A Black Man" (which includes the hidden track "Stand!" from Sly & The Family Stone), and their original single  Down In The Ghetto Parts I & II. One of the best Funk albums from the early seventies, also known for "Burning Spear" which was included in various compilations and sampled many times by Hip-Hop artists like on Go With The Flow (1991) by Pete Rock & CL Smooth.

Jimmy Takeuchi recorded several LPs for the Toshiba recordings series 'DRUM DRUM DRUM', best known for its legendary singular sexy covers. Formed in 1967, The Exciters mixing Jazz with pop/surf music standards including the classic songs from Elvis Presley, The Surfaris, The Beatles, The Ventures or japanese pop covers. Toshiaki Yokota & The Beat Generation - Flute Adventure

Flute Adventure is the third and concept album recorded by The Beat Generation, a japanese avant-garde jazz rock group influenced by the psychedelic movement, the french symbolism & american counterculture. The group consists of Hideo Ishikawa, Sadanori Nakamure plus some members from the Count Buffalos such as Kimio Mizutani, Larry Sunaga & Masaoki Terakawa, led by the flutist Toshiaki Yokota. Toshiaki Yokota is one of the most finest shakuhachi player, a pioneer of Jazz Flute who introduced the japanese bamboo flute in modern music with Minoru Muraoka & Hozan Yamamoto, he was member of various jazz rock groups as The Sound Limited or the progressive rock band, Love Live Life. The First side is a tribute devoted to the Arthur Rimbaud's poetry, called le soleil était encore chaud (track 1 to 4), a Jazz Rock suite characterized by african influence, psychedelia, free improvisations & electric sounds. The side B offers to us a Brazilian moment between Bossa Nova & Jazz Samba, including original Yokota's tune Ofélia ; Samba De Orfeu (based on Black Orpheus (Orfeu da Conceição)), a classic composed by Vinicius de Moraes and played in a kind of Samba Rock fusion form ; Orfeu Negro ; and at last, an amazing re-interpretation of Reza coupled with his Ending Samba.
