Recorded in 1976, "Marcos Resende & Index" should have been the first official album of the group, long before "Festa Para Um Novo Rei" released in 1978. However, it will remain unreleased for over 40 years before Far Out Recordings convinced Marcos to come it out from the darkness. Innovative musician using as well Fender Rhodes as various synthesizers like the Minimoog, mixing Jazz, Electronic music with Samba, he was a pianist session in demand in Brazil, collaborating to recordings of the legends Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo or Gal Costa. In the early seventies, he formed the electronic progressive jazz group "Status", who opened shows for Stan Getz or Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers. He recorded the album featuring Rubão Sabino (eb), Claudio Caribé (ds), the great saxophonist Oberdan Magalhães from Banda Black Rio and the legendary Toninho Barbosa, sound engineer on "Light As A Feather" by Azymuth, "Previsão Do Tempo" by Marcos Valle and "Quem É Quem" by João Donato.

Tim Maia ‎- Nobody Can Live Forever ~ The Existential Soul of Tim Maia

No need to introduce the iconic godfather of the Brazilian soul music, the man who contributed to create the Black Rio movement introducing American R&B in Brazilian music. Compiled by Paul Heck for Luaka Bop, the label of Talking Heads' founder member, David Byrne, "The Existential Soul of Tim Maia" brings together some of the best Tim Maia's productions recorded during the 1970 decade including his mystical "Cultura Racional" period from 1974-1975. Despite the club killers "O Balanço" & "Rodésia" are missing, find on this fabulous compilation, five undisputed classics extracted from "Racional Vol. 1 & 2" among "Que Beleza", "Quer Queira, Quer Não Queira" or "O Caminho Do Bem" featuring  saxophonist Oberdan Magalhães from Banda Black Rio and pianist/arranger Robson Jorge. Marcos Valle - Vontade De Rever Você

Recorded at the end of the disco era and during the smooth jazz climax, "Vontade De Rever Você" is the first Marcos Valle's album released after his Californian stay to escape to the Brazilian censorship between 1975-1980. Marcos brought back with him the north american "sound" including boogie-funk and disco music to take a new artistic direction, recruiting R&B songwriter Leon Ware, one Marvin Gaye's collaborator. Other talented musicians surround him, such as the founder members of american jazz-funk collective "Chicago" (Peter Cetera, Walter Parazaider, James Pankow), and a Brazilian stellars crew with saxophonist Oberdan & bassist Jamil Joanes from Banda Black Rio, jazz percussionist Airto Moreira, Robson Jorge on guitar, José Roberto Bertrami from Azymuth on keyboards and accordionist Sivuca. Titles include "Paraiba Nao E Chicago" (his own variation on the Leon Ware's "Baby Don't Stop Me"), "Garimpando", the disco-funk gem cut for the dancefloor "Velhos Surfistas Querendo Voar", the samba interlude "Campina Grande", the sublime latin pop ballad "Sei La" and an up-tempo song "Pecados De Amor", originally composed for Cristina Camargo and previously released as "Mortal Tem Hora" in 1980.

One of the favourite Madilb's albums, the self-titled "Arthur Verocai" album has been sampled many times by various Hip-Hop artists  such as MF Doom, Common, Little Brother and more recently Action Bronson. Arthur Verocai is a brilliant brazilian conductor, pianist and guitarist, who has worked for several artists from the Tropicalia movement such as Jorge Ben, Marcos Valle and Gal Costa. Recorded at Studio Somil, Rio de Janeiro in 1972, this album incorporates the Brazilian musical direction taken by the Tropicalia, a skilled fusion of Jazz & Funk including some sound elements from the Blaxploitation music. Arthur Verocai has surrounded himself by prestigious musicians  including saxophonists Paulo Moura and Oberdan Magalhães from Banda Black Rio, the jazz drummers Robertinho Silva and Pascoal Meirelles, Serginho Do Trombone from Dom Salvador & amp; Grupo Abolição, supported by string orchestra. Titles include the beautiful folk song "Caboclo", the samba jazz "Seriado" featuring Célia, the funky "Presente Grego" and the jazz rock tune "Karina (Domingo No Grajaú)". Banda Black Rio - Maria Fumaça

"Maria Fumaça" is probably one of the best Brazilian Jazz Funk album ever recorded, recommended by Gilles Peterson. The name of the band came from by the Black Rio funk movement of the late seventies. "Banda Black Rio" was formed in 1976 by saxophonist Oberdan Magalhães & trumpeter José Carlos Barroso ("Barrosinho"), both former members of the Abolição group who accompanied the pianist Dom Salvador from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. It features Jamil Joanes (eb), Claudio Stevenson (eg), Cristovao Bastos (key, arr), Lucio Silva (tb) and Luis Carlos Santos (ds), supported by The Percussionists Of Rio De Janeiro featuring Luna, Nenê, Wilson Canegal & Geraldo Bongô. Often compared to Kool & The Gang and Earth Wind & Fire, the band rather plays a sound close to The Headhunters style, the backing band of Herbie Hancock during the seventies, and includes some Brazilian music elements. In 1978, the band was recruited as backing band for Time Maia on "Tim Maia Disco Club" and recorded a live album with Caetano Veloso entitled "Bicho Bale Show". Titles includes the Samba Funk "Marai Fumaça", the killer song Mr. Funky Samba and the Brazilian classics "Casa Forte" of Edu Lobo and "Na Baixa Do Sapateiro" of Ary Barroso.

Osmar Milito - Bossa Nova...(E Deixa O Relogio Andar !)

Osmar Milito featuring the Quarteto Forma (as backing vocals), Marcos Valle (ep), Chico Batera (per), and Oberdan Magalhães (sax). This french issue of the amazing Brazilian gem produced by Osmar Milito, originally released on Som Livre, was released under the "Bossa Nova" name instead of "E Deixa O Relogio Andar !". This album is a masterpiece of Brazilian Jazz in sideline of the MPB genre, a subtle condensed of Latin Jazz & Pop music as the legendary "Garra" album by Marcos Valle. Although, Osmar Milito hasn't recorded a lot of albums, he remains one of the most prominent arranger & composer, and can be considered as one of the greatest jazz pianists from Brazil, who made his fame working for various North American artists such as Liza Minelli, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, Sarah Vaughan, Randy Brecker or Benny Golson. Starting as professional in 1964, Osmar was a popular sideman and arranger for Bossa Nova artists such as Elis Regina, Nara Leão, Maria Bethânia, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, Jorge Ben or Vinicius De Moraes. In the seventies, Osmar participates to the performing shows of the Sergio Mendes group across the USA, continues to work alongside leaders of brazilian pop music and composed various soundtracks (whose the best known "Selva De Pedra - Trilha Sonora Original Novela" - 1972). Titles include Jazz standards (Cantaloupe Island, What Are You Doing For The Rest Of Your Life, Mercy Mercy Mercy), Marcos Valle's iconic songs "Que Bandeira" & "Garra", "Chovendo Na Roseira" by Jobim, "Rita Jeep" by Jorge Ben and "Mudei De Ideia" by Antonio Carlos & Jocafi.

Amazing Samba Funk/Soul album by Raul De Souza alias Raulzinho, under the name Impacto 8 group featuring brazilian singer Betinho, drummer Robertinho Silva & saxophonist Oberdan from famous Som Imaginário & Banda Black Rio bands. Raulzinho is a jazz trombonist coming from Rio De Janeiro, one of the greatest player of his generation who started as professional alongside the legendary guitarist Baden Powell and evolved in Sérgio Mendes & Bossa Rio. Since the seventies, he is a session musician in demand playing for american jazz fusion group "Caldera" and others international artists such as A. C. Jobim, Airto Moreira, Hermeto Pascoal, Sonny Rollins, Cal Tjader, Jimmy Smith and Sarah Vaughan. In 1975, with "Colors" (produced by Airto Moreira), he embraces an international career, signing on Milestone & Capitol Records and released two albums produced by George Duke, "Sweet Lucy" and "Don't Ask My Neighbors" (1977-1978). Titles include the club killer "Two Beat Manchild (Mundo Louco)", western pop hits "Spinning Wheel", "You've Made Me So Very Happy", the James Brown funk "I've Got The Feelin'", the jazz standards "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" and "Cantalope Island".
