The best known Hungarian 'Gypsy' guitarist associated to the american Soul Legend, Bobby Womack, in Funk/Soul joint project for jazz guitar featuring Phil Upchurch & The Shadow (producer Tommy LiPuma). Titles includes original compositions and four Bobby Womack's songs whose "If Just A Little Communication" (based on "Communication" from the eponymous album) and "Breezin'" composed in particular for Gabor Szabo. Produced by Tommy LiPuma and mixed by The Doors' sound engineer, Bruce Botnick.

Gabor Szabo - Jazz Raga

The meeting between R&B, Jazz and psychedelic music by the most famous Hungarian jazz guitarist Gabor Szabo featuring drummer Bernard 'Pretty' Purdie, bassist Jack Gregg, guitarist Bob Bushnell and percussionist Ed Shaugnessy in addition on "Mizrab". "Jazz Raga" is a pioneer album of fusion, mostly in the jazz rock style including Indian and Gypsy music elements that showcase sitar and tablas use. Titles include the two jazz standards "Caravan" by Duke Ellington and "Summertime" by George Gershwin, "Raga Doll" by Gary McFarland, "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones, the jazz rock "Sophisticated Wheels" and the transcendantal tracks "Walking On Nails" (feat. Gabor on vocals), "Krishna", "Search For Nirvana" and "Ravi". All tracks recorded at studio Rudy Van Gelder, composed by Szabo except those mentionned.

Bob James contributes largely to the achievement of this album as arranger, producer and pianist. Gabor Szabo' group featuring Eric Gale, Harvey Mason, Idris Muhammad, Louis Johnson, Tom Scott, John Faddis. Titles include the huge groovy version of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 (Franz Liszt), boogaloo style as The Meters, Ziggidy Zag by Harvey Mason, Macho & Time by Gabor. All tracks arranged by Bob James, Gabor Szabo & Harvey Mason.
