Marcos Valle ‎- Mustang Côr De Sangue

The album that opens the Valle's psychedelic pop era including six masterpieces released from 1970 to 1974, whose the iconic "Bed Album" (the Marcos Valle self-titled album in 1970), "Garra" in 1971 and "O Fabuloso Fittipaldi Original Soundtrack" introducing the Brazilian Jazz Funk band "Azymüth" in 1973. "Mustang Côr De Sangue" is a sublime baroque-pop album tinged by Soul, Jazz and Samba elements, comprising a variation on the Bossa Nova standard "Summer Samba" (Samba De Verão 2), the up-tempo drum song "Frêvo Novo", the killer instrumental jazz-samba "Azimuth" (inspired the name of the same band), the latin pop tune "Mentira Carioca". Titles include also various collaborations with some major figures of the seventies Brazilian music scene such as arranger Eumir Deodato on "Dia De Vitória" featuring the Golden Boys quartet, guitarist/singer Milton Nascimento on "Diálogo", the percussionist Naná Vasconcelos, and bassist Novelli from Mário Castro Neves & Samba S.A., among others.

Marcos Valle - Viola Enluarada

"Viola Enluarada" is the second album from the Marcos Valle's pop era, tinged by a melancholic and sweet voice including baroque pop style, bossa nova materials and jazz expressions. Arranged by the brazilian maestro Dori Caymmi, Antônio Adolfo, Oscar Castro-Neves and Eumir Deodato (who played also piano), "Viola Enluarada" features some guests musicians such as Bossa Nova guitarist Roberto Menescal, and singers who lend their voice on several songs, the young Milton Nascimento on "Viola Enluarada" & "Requiem", the Jovem Guarda quartet "Golden Boys" on "Terra De Ninguém", and Valle's wife Anamaria on the catchy bossa song "Próton Elétron Neutron". Always written and composed with the collaboration of his brother Paulo Sérgio and produced by Milton Miranda.

 

Astrud Gilberto - Beach Samba

Astrud Gilberto surrounded by orchestra conducted by Don Sebesky featuring flutist Hubert Laws & Toots Thielemans (guitar, whistle), rhythm section including bassist Ron Carter, drummer Grady Tate, Marcos Valle (guitar) and Georges Devens (vibraphone). "Beach Samba" was cut for international audience (like the Marcos Valle's "Samba '68"), benefiting of the Eumir Deodato and Don Sebesky's arrangements to the jazz pop orientation. Titles include a songs alternation in portuguese and english lyrics, "The Face I Love" by Marcos Valle, the jazz standard "My Foolish Heart", the banda "Parade" by Chico Buarque, two covers of Luiz Bonfa ("Oba Oba", "Dia Das Rosas") and Deodato contribution's with "Canoeiro" & "Não Bate O Coração". Marcos Valle - Previsão Do Tempo

Marcos Valle leaves behind him the psychedelic rock and to fully immerse into the Jazz Funk style including Samba. Considered as his best album after the iconic "Garra", deeply influenced by the Herbie Hancock's sound from the "Headhunter" era, "Previsão Do Tempo" includes various latin flavours evolving amid the electronic moods where Rhodes and moog synthesizer have a key role. The album introduces his new backing band, the brazilian jazz funk combo "Azymuth" featuring José Roberto Bertrami (keys), Alex Malheiros (eb) and Ivan Conti (ds), all supported by the maestro arrangers Joao Donato, Eumir Deodato, and the Brazilian "Rudy Van Gelder" sound engineer Toninho Barbosa. Titles include the samba-soul "Flamengo Até Morrer" feat. O Terço, the jazz funk nuggets "Nem Paletó, Nem Gravata", "Mentira" & "Não Tem Nada Não".

"Deodato 2" is a jazz-rock masterpiece by Brazilian jazz pianist and arranger Eumir Deodato. It features iconic musicians from the american fusion scene including John Tropea on electric guitar, Stanley Clarke on bass, Billy Cobham on drums and Brazilian percussionist Rubens Bassini, surrounded by solid horn section with Hubert Laws (flute), John Faddis (trumpet) or Wayne Andre (trombone) among others. The album opens of amazing variation on progressive rock standard "Nights In White Satin" by The Moody Blues, including an insane guitar solo by John Tropea at his top of his game. Other titles include the Deodato's classics "Skyscrapers" (with the virtuoso bass line by Stanley Clarke) & "Super Strut", a funky version of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue", and the wistful song "Pavane For A Dead Princess" from french classical composer Maurice Ravel. 

Deodato - Prelude

Originally recorded in 1972, "Prelude" is the first of three jazz rock albums (including a recording live) released on CTI by brazilian keyboardist Eumir Deodato. The album is best known for the iconic track "Also Sprach Zarathustra", an arrangement of the theme from "2001: A Space Odyssey", it-self first part of Richard Strauss' tone poem (Also Sprach Zarathustra op.30). "Prelude" is the most successful recording for Deodato and CTI Records, a great source of inspiration for many future jazz fusion musicians in particular in the latin funk style. It features best of the best CTI session musicians such as Ron Carter, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, Airto Moreira, Ray Barretto, John Tropea and Hubert Laws. Titles also include "Baubles, Bangles And Beats" exctract from the B'Way Show Kismet, "Prelude To Afternoon Of A Faun" by orchestral music french composer Claude Debussy and "September 13" by Cobham & Deodato.

Marcos Valle - Samba '68

A nice selection of catchy Bossa Nova songs originally recorded in 1967 by one of the most iconic Brazilian jazz pianist. Released for an international audiance including english lyrics, "Samba '68" is a cover album of original Valle's songs previously released in Brazil and composed with his brother Paulo Sérgio Valle, his only recording for the jazz label "Verve". It feature his wife Anamaria on vocals, Claudio Slon on drums, Walter Wanderley on organ and Eumir Deodato in charge of arrangements, all supported by a strings ensemble. Titles include two of the biggest Valle's hits, the Bossa Nova standards "So Nice (Summer Samba)" & "Crickets Sing For Anamaria", originally known as "Samba De Verão" (1964) and "Os Grilos" (1967). Deodato - Whirlwinds

Eumir Deodato is a brazilian jazz pianist, popular producer and arranger since the 1960s, as well as in Jazz, Pop and R&B, collaborating with the greatest worldwide artists including Antonio Carlos Jobim, Marcos Valle, Astrud Gilberto, Wes Montgomery, Kool & The Gang or more recently Björk. "Whirlwinds" is his first recording for MCA after the critically acclaimed albums "Prelude" and "Deodato 2" both released on CTI records, featuring Billy Cobham (ds), John Tropea (eg), John Faddis (tp) and Ruben Bassini (percussion). The album is on the same Jazz Funk line than his previous albums, revisiting classical music (Ave Maria),  jazz standard (Moonlight Serenade) and rock "Do It Again" but also offers original compositions including the tropical funk "Havana Strut", "West 42nd Street" and "Whirlwinds" also known as "Tropea" spotlighting the guitarist.

Antonio Carlos Jobim - Stone Flower

Considered as the forerunner of the Bossa Nova genre, Antonio Carlos Jobim was best known for having shaped Brazilian modern music and his contribution to famous Stan Getz's albums "Jazz Samba" and "Getz/Gilberto". Arranged by Eumir Deodato and recorded at studio Rudy Van Gelder, "Stone Flower" is a highlight point of his career, a kind of own version of the Miles Davis' "Kind Of Blue" album. It's his only album recorded for the Creed Taylor label including the best of the best among CTI musicians : Joe Farrell, Ron Carter, Hubert Laws, Deodato and Airto Moreira. Titles include the Brazilian music anthem "Brazil" ("Aquarela Do Brazil" composed by Ary Barroso) and original compositions by Jobim.

The second album of Astrud Gilberto with brazilian pianist/arranger Eumir Deodato featuring wellknown session musicians from CTI among Ron Carter & Bob Cranshaw (b), Billy Cobham (ds), Airto Moreira (per). As on her previous album (Gilberto With Turrentine - 1971), Astrud leaves Bossa Nova recruiting R&B arranger Boo Frazier and Stax/Volt songwriter, David Louis Jordan, to give to "Now" the typical sound of southern Soul music. The album alternates jazz samba, funk songs and pure pop/soul ballads including earliest compositions of Astrud Gilberto like samba song "Gingele", Jordan's collaboration "Touching You", the brazilian classics "Baiao" & "Take It Easy, My Brother Charlie" (Jorge Ben).
