Marcos Valle ‎- Mustang Côr De Sangue

The album that opens the Valle's psychedelic pop era including six masterpieces released from 1970 to 1974, whose the iconic "Bed Album" (the Marcos Valle self-titled album in 1970), "Garra" in 1971 and "O Fabuloso Fittipaldi Original Soundtrack" introducing the Brazilian Jazz Funk band "Azymüth" in 1973. "Mustang Côr De Sangue" is a sublime baroque-pop album tinged by Soul, Jazz and Samba elements, comprising a variation on the Bossa Nova standard "Summer Samba" (Samba De Verão 2), the up-tempo drum song "Frêvo Novo", the killer instrumental jazz-samba "Azimuth" (inspired the name of the same band), the latin pop tune "Mentira Carioca". Titles include also various collaborations with some major figures of the seventies Brazilian music scene such as arranger Eumir Deodato on "Dia De Vitória" featuring the Golden Boys quartet, guitarist/singer Milton Nascimento on "Diálogo", the percussionist Naná Vasconcelos, and bassist Novelli from Mário Castro Neves & Samba S.A., among others.

Marcos Valle - Vontade De Rever Você

Recorded at the end of the disco era and during the smooth jazz climax, "Vontade De Rever Você" is the first Marcos Valle's album released after his Californian stay to escape to the Brazilian censorship between 1975-1980. Marcos brought back with him the north american "sound" including boogie-funk and disco music to take a new artistic direction, recruiting R&B songwriter Leon Ware, one Marvin Gaye's collaborator. Other talented musicians surround him, such as the founder members of american jazz-funk collective "Chicago" (Peter Cetera, Walter Parazaider, James Pankow), and a Brazilian stellars crew with saxophonist Oberdan & bassist Jamil Joanes from Banda Black Rio, jazz percussionist Airto Moreira, Robson Jorge on guitar, José Roberto Bertrami from Azymuth on keyboards and accordionist Sivuca. Titles include "Paraiba Nao E Chicago" (his own variation on the Leon Ware's "Baby Don't Stop Me"), "Garimpando", the disco-funk gem cut for the dancefloor "Velhos Surfistas Querendo Voar", the samba interlude "Campina Grande", the sublime latin pop ballad "Sei La" and an up-tempo song "Pecados De Amor", originally composed for Cristina Camargo and previously released as "Mortal Tem Hora" in 1980.

Marcos Valle - Viola Enluarada

"Viola Enluarada" is the second album from the Marcos Valle's pop era, tinged by a melancholic and sweet voice including baroque pop style, bossa nova materials and jazz expressions. Arranged by the brazilian maestro Dori Caymmi, Antônio Adolfo, Oscar Castro-Neves and Eumir Deodato (who played also piano), "Viola Enluarada" features some guests musicians such as Bossa Nova guitarist Roberto Menescal, and singers who lend their voice on several songs, the young Milton Nascimento on "Viola Enluarada" & "Requiem", the Jovem Guarda quartet "Golden Boys" on "Terra De Ninguém", and Valle's wife Anamaria on the catchy bossa song "Próton Elétron Neutron". Always written and composed with the collaboration of his brother Paulo Sérgio and produced by Milton Miranda.

Osmar Milito - Bossa Nova...(E Deixa O Relogio Andar !)

Osmar Milito featuring the Quarteto Forma (as backing vocals), Marcos Valle (ep), Chico Batera (per), and Oberdan Magalhães (sax). This french issue of the amazing Brazilian gem produced by Osmar Milito, originally released on Som Livre, was released under the "Bossa Nova" name instead of "E Deixa O Relogio Andar !". This album is a masterpiece of Brazilian Jazz in sideline of the MPB genre, a subtle condensed of Latin Jazz & Pop music as the legendary "Garra" album by Marcos Valle. Although, Osmar Milito hasn't recorded a lot of albums, he remains one of the most prominent arranger & composer, and can be considered as one of the greatest jazz pianists from Brazil, who made his fame working for various North American artists such as Liza Minelli, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, Sarah Vaughan, Randy Brecker or Benny Golson. Starting as professional in 1964, Osmar was a popular sideman and arranger for Bossa Nova artists such as Elis Regina, Nara Leão, Maria Bethânia, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, Jorge Ben or Vinicius De Moraes. In the seventies, Osmar participates to the performing shows of the Sergio Mendes group across the USA, continues to work alongside leaders of brazilian pop music and composed various soundtracks (whose the best known "Selva De Pedra - Trilha Sonora Original Novela" - 1972). Titles include Jazz standards (Cantaloupe Island, What Are You Doing For The Rest Of Your Life, Mercy Mercy Mercy), Marcos Valle's iconic songs "Que Bandeira" & "Garra", "Chovendo Na Roseira" by Jobim, "Rita Jeep" by Jorge Ben and "Mudei De Ideia" by Antonio Carlos & Jocafi.

Astrud Gilberto - Beach Samba

Astrud Gilberto surrounded by orchestra conducted by Don Sebesky featuring flutist Hubert Laws & Toots Thielemans (guitar, whistle), rhythm section including bassist Ron Carter, drummer Grady Tate, Marcos Valle (guitar) and Georges Devens (vibraphone). "Beach Samba" was cut for international audience (like the Marcos Valle's "Samba '68"), benefiting of the Eumir Deodato and Don Sebesky's arrangements to the jazz pop orientation. Titles include a songs alternation in portuguese and english lyrics, "The Face I Love" by Marcos Valle, the jazz standard "My Foolish Heart", the banda "Parade" by Chico Buarque, two covers of Luiz Bonfa ("Oba Oba", "Dia Das Rosas") and Deodato contribution's with "Canoeiro" & "Não Bate O Coração". Marcos Valle by Be Hard Bop - Máximo Valle ~ Selected Works



Marcos Valle & his brother Sergio have left their mark on Brazilian music with their compositions and participated to its expansion during the sixties and the seventies. This versatile musician has explored most of the existing musical styles from Bossa Nova, Contemporary Jazz, Rhythm&Blues as well as Funk/Soul, Rock and Pop. He contributed to do emerge various brazilian Rock & Jazz bands such as O Têrço, Som Imaginario or Azimuth by recruiting them on "Marcos Valle" '70, "Garra" (1971), "Vento Sul" (1972) & "Previsão Do Tempo" (1973). Most of his albums recorded during this period, have become great classics of Brazilian music. Since his first album "Samba Demais" released in 1963, the Valle's work divides into three distinct periods : his early Bossa Nova years (1963-1968), the Psychedelic years (1969-1972) and finally the Jazz Funk in 1973. "Marcos Valle '70" is best known as "The Bed Album" featuring brazilian progressive rock group Som Imaginário, backing band of Milton Nascimento. Following his previous "Mustang Cor De Sangue" in 1969 introducing a psychedelic approach, "Marcos Valle '70" incorporates modern Rock & Soul influences from The Beatles, psychedelic music and the Afro-American culture. Before turning to the psychedelic pop, Marcos evolved over 10 years in the Bossa Nova style since his first album, "Samba Demais" in 1963 and contributed to its expansion with the latin jazz standards "Summer Samba" (Samba De Verão) and "Os Grilos". Titles include the finest pop ballad "Quarentão Simpático", the protest song "Dez Leis", new recording of "Os Grilos", "Esperando O Messias" feat. the Golden Boys, the waltz "Pigmalião", "Ele E Ela" & "Freio Aerodinâmico" feat. Ângela Valle (sampled by Jay Z on "Thank You" from "The Blue Print 3" in 2009) and experimental baroque suite "Suíte Imaginária". The line-up consists of Marcos Valle (vo, p), Novelli, Luiz Alves (eb), Nelson Ângelo, Tavito (eg), Wagner Tiso (keys), Robertinho Silva (ds) and Ângela Valle (backing vocals).

Marcos Valle - Garra

"Garra" is a highpoint in the Marcos Valle's career following his previous album, an anticonformist, iconic and essential "Bossa-Soul" album including funk grooves and sublime pop idioms featuring pianist Dom Salvador, drummer Robertinho Silva and arranger Cesar Camargo Mariano from Som Três. "Garra" is the quintessence of MPB (musica popular brasileira) from the seventies, one of the most influential album on the contemporary music, definitely establishing Marcos Valle in international pop music. Marcos Valle - Previsão Do Tempo

Marcos Valle leaves behind him the psychedelic rock and to fully immerse into the Jazz Funk style including Samba. Considered as his best album after the iconic "Garra", deeply influenced by the Herbie Hancock's sound from the "Headhunter" era, "Previsão Do Tempo" includes various latin flavours evolving amid the electronic moods where Rhodes and moog synthesizer have a key role. The album introduces his new backing band, the brazilian jazz funk combo "Azymuth" featuring José Roberto Bertrami (keys), Alex Malheiros (eb) and Ivan Conti (ds), all supported by the maestro arrangers Joao Donato, Eumir Deodato, and the Brazilian "Rudy Van Gelder" sound engineer Toninho Barbosa. Marcos Valle - Vento Sul

"Vento Sul" closes the psychedelic era of Marcos Valle started from "Mustang Côr De Sangue" in 1969. His most original work, a progressive rock album including experimental pop, psychedelia and latin elements, deeply inspired by the "White Album" of The Beatles and the arrangements of George Martin. It was composed in Buzios, a popular city of Brazilian surf and conterculture (hippie community), where various international public figures have stayed there such as Brigitte Bardot. Marcos is supported by latin rock band "O Terço" featuring César de Mercês (eb), Cláudio Guimarães, Fredera, Sérgio Hinds (eg), Vinícius Cantuária, Robertinho Silva (ds, perc) and Paulo Guimarães (fl). Titles include psychedelic folk ("Malena", "Voo Cego"), progressive rock (the protest song "Revolução Orgãnica"), pop ballads ("Vento Sul", "Deixa O Mundo E Sol Entrar") and even heavy metal (Mi Hermoza).

Marcos Valle - Samba '68

A nice selection of catchy Bossa Nova songs originally recorded in 1967 by one of the most iconic Brazilian jazz pianist. Released for an international audiance including english lyrics, "Samba '68" is a cover album of original Valle's songs previously released in Brazil and composed with his brother Paulo Sérgio Valle, his only recording for the jazz label "Verve". It feature his wife Anamaria on vocals, Claudio Slon on drums, Walter Wanderley on organ and Eumir Deodato in charge of arrangements, all supported by a strings ensemble. Titles include two of the biggest Valle's hits, the Bossa Nova standards "So Nice (Summer Samba)" & "Crickets Sing For Anamaria", originally known as "Samba De Verão" (1964) and "Os Grilos" (1967). All tracks arranged by Eumir Deodato.
