Volume 4 of five discs from the "DRUM DRUM DRUM" serie devoted to the iconic instrument, released on the japanese label "Crown Records", and recorded by Akira Ishikawa & His Group. Akira revisits the popular folk songs of Japanese culture from the best-known genres "Bushi" or the "Ondo". These two traditional japanese folk music genres are associated to various dances forms, by the using a set of traditional japanese drums and percussions such as the taiko. The group plays a clever fusion mixing world music, jazz & psychedelic rock including heavy drum solos with modern and traditional instruments.

Toshiyuki Miyama & His New Herd - Your Best Pops 12

Toshiyuki Miyama revisists the greatest hits of western pop music in big band mode including The Beatles (Get Back), Creedence Clearwater Revival (Proud Mary), Marie Laforêt (Manchester Et Liverpool), The Zombies (Time of the Season) or The Doors (Touch Me). Toshiyuki Miyama is one of the greatest japanese jazz saxophonist/clarinetist, arranger, bandleader, who recorded over 70 albums, composed and produced various music materials for radio, cinema and television. In 1958, he formed his first "New Herd", one of the most prominent big band in the Japanese Jazz history, a talent nursery where were formed many iconic young musicians (including saxophonist Kosuke Ichihara or pianists Norio MaedaMasahiko Sato), and which known an international recognition. Among his musical feats, The New Herd played for Charlie Mingus (Charles Mingus With Orchestra - 1971), took part to the Monterey Jazz festival in 1974 and supported Nancy Wilson on stage in Japan. All tracks conducted & arranged by Toshiyuki Miyama.

Akira Ishikawa And His Group - Drum Screen Drum

Between november 1970 and august 1971, Akira Ishikawa has recorded five albums for the "DRUM DRUM DRUM" series released by the CROWN label (not to be confused with the same serie released by Toshiba). Each volume contains a theme such as Christmas songs, classical music, Elvis Presley's standards or traditional folk music (Yagi Bushi). This volume is devoted to the iconic movie themes including "Sounds Of Silence"(Simon & Garfunkel), "Un Homme Et Une Femme" (Francis Lai), "Mélodie En Sous-Sol" (Michel Magne), all broadcasted on japanese screens.
