The post-Tropicalia album by one of the female figure from Brazilian music, Gal Costa, including the tango-dance-groove "Relance", selected by Gilles Peterson for the famous Brazilica compilation series released in 1994 on Talkin' Loud label. It features outstanding musicians among Gilberto Gil, Roberto Menescal on guitar, Tenorio Jr., Wagner Tiso on organ, arrangers Rogério Duprat & Arthur Verocai. With "Índia", Gal Costa left the psychedelic rock to embrace the Jazz & the World Music. Backing to her roots from the Bossa Nova, she replaces accoustic guitar at the forefront of her artwork, supported by the accordion play of Dominguinhos and a musical direction by his soul brother, Gilberto Gil. The songs benefited of the sophisticated arrangements, the result of genious work from Arthur Verocai & Rogério Duprat, including a great variety of styles : tango for the title-track, afrobrasileiro music for the portuguese protest song  "Milho Verde", Bossa Nova with the Jobim's cover "Desafinado" or the Jazz Funk "Pontos De Luz".

Marcos Valle - Viola Enluarada

"Viola Enluarada" is the second album from the Marcos Valle's pop era, tinged by a melancholic and sweet voice including baroque pop style, bossa nova materials and jazz expressions. Arranged by the brazilian maestro Dori Caymmi, Antônio Adolfo, Oscar Castro-Neves and Eumir Deodato (who played also piano), "Viola Enluarada" features some guests musicians such as Bossa Nova guitarist Roberto Menescal, and singers who lend their voice on several songs, the young Milton Nascimento on "Viola Enluarada" & "Requiem", the Jovem Guarda quartet "Golden Boys" on "Terra De Ninguém", and Valle's wife Anamaria on the catchy bossa song "Próton Elétron Neutron". Always written and composed with the collaboration of his brother Paulo Sérgio and produced by Milton Miranda.

 

Gal E Caetano Velloso ‎- Domingo

"Domingo" is the result of the meeting between Caetano Veloso and Gal Costa, two major faces of the Brazilian music out from the seventies. Both influenced by João Gilberto, they produced here their debut album, the only one played in the pure Bossa Nova style including softness voices and a delicacy guitar playing, supported by guitarist Dori Caymmi in addition. "Domingo" is part of Gal Costa/Caetano Veloso's respective discographies and was recorded just before the explosion of Tropicália movement, which whom Gal & Caetano will become two iconic figures. Titles include solo and duet songs based on original compositions by Caetano, Edu Lobo (Candeias), Sidney Miller (Maria Joana), Gilberto Gil & Torquato Neto (Minha Senhora, Zabelê). All tracks arranged by  Francis Hime and Roberto Menescal.

One of the best and most popular brazilian jazz songstress since the sixties until his death in 1982, nicknamed the "Queen of Bossa". Recorded outside Brazil during her European tour at Philips Studio in Stanhope House, London, "In London" mixes Bossa Nova, Afro-Cuban Jazz & Pop sounds featuring legendary brazilian musicians who supported her on stage such as Antonio Adolofo (p), Roberto Menescal (g) & Wilson Das Neves (ds).
