One of Quincy’s best-known record with the hit track "Soul Bossa Nova" included in the original soundtrack from "Austin Powers : International Man Of Mystery" (1997). Quincy Jones discovered bossa nova when he moved to Buenos Aires for a tour and met the brazilian pianist Lalo Schifrin. "Plays The Music Of Jimmy Hendrix" is the perfect meeting between Jazz & Rock, first conceived as a project with the collaboration of the legendary guitarist, it was unfortunately interrupted by the death of the party concerned. "Bossa Nova '67" is the second bossa nova album recorded by the Sadao Watanabe Sextet featuring Sadao Watanabe (as, fl), Masabumi Kikuchi (p), Isao Suzuki (b), Masahiko Togashi (ds), Sadanori Nakamure (g) & Hideo Miyata (cabasa), supported by a strings ensemble. Sadao Watanabe is the most famous japanese jazz musician and was the main actor of the Bossa Nova boom in Japan from 1966 with the "Jazz & Bossa" album. The first Yuji Ohno Trio's album opening the new LUPIN THE THIRD [JAZZ] serie, released under VAP label since 1999. "Lupin The Third Jazz" introduces his new line-up featuring japanese jazz giant Yoshio Suzuki (b) & Kenichiro Murata (ds), his mostly jazz trio formation of the early decade 2000. Yoshio "Chin" Suzuki is one of the best japanese jazz bassist who evolved in groups the Gil Evans Orchestra, The Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and was sideman for saxophonist Kohsuke Mine, pianists Masabumi Kikuchi & Takehiro Honda. The trio is supported by guests musicians including Yasushi Ichihara, former member of "You & The Explosion Band" (replaces Kenichiro Murata on "Love Theme"), percussionist Tatsuji Yokoyama, saxophonist Joe Yamada and other japanese jazz great, the guitarist Kiyoshi Sugimoto. The tracklist is based on classics songs from Lupin The 3rd revisited including variations on the opening & ending themes (Theme From Lupin III, Love Squall, Love Theme), on "Funny Walk In Old Fashion" (Funny Walk) and new compositions by Yuji Ohno (O Men A Mor, Members Only). Kiyoshi Sugimoto Quintet - Babylonia Wind

"Babylonia Wind" is an essential of the japanese jazz albums, masterpiece of jazz guitar performed by the Kiyoshi Sugimoto Quintet featuring Kiyoshi Sugimoto at the top of his game. The quintet is based on the same rhythm trio as on his previous album (Country Dream), including bassist Yoshio Ikeda & drummer Motohiko Hino, while Hideo Ichikawa replaces Hiromasa Suzuki on electric piano with Takao Uematsu on tenor saxophone in addition. Titles include deep grooves with free improvisations (Rosetta Stone, Colsabard Hill), modal expressions (Hieroglyph) or jazz tinged with psychedelic rock (Babylonia WindMr Darius). Jun Fukamachi - Triangle Session

"Triangle Session" is a live recording from amazing performance at Tokyo Seibu Theater in 1977 featuring keyboardist Jun Fukamachi & his KORG synthesizer. "Triangle Session" is the meeting between iconic japanese master of the electronic Jazz-Funk and The Brecker Brothers including US-Japan musicians such as trombonist Barry Rogers and guitarist Kenji Omura. Titles include two tracks extracted from "Second Phase" album released in 1977 (Stick Freighter, Plastic Echelon), an insane electro-funk version in up-tempo of "Perfidy" (from "Introducing Jun Fukamachi", 1974), an extended version of "Hateruma" (from "Rokuyu", 1975) and "Funky Sea, Funky Dew" composed by Michael Brecker.

The Jazz Crusaders - Chile Con Soul

"The Jazz Crusaders" were originally formed by Joe Sample (p), Wilton Felder (ts), Nesbert "Stix" Hooper (ds) and Wayne Henderson (tb), later joined by Larry Carlton in 1971. "Chile Con Soul" is their ninth album recorded for Pacific Jazz. It includes including a nice selection of eight latin grooves played in the pure Afro-Cuban style featuring notable musicians such as flutist Hubert Laws (fl), Cuban percussionist Carlos Vidal (cg) and Al McKibbon (b). In the seventies, they take a new route adopting jazz funk and become The Crusaders.

"Forest Flower" is an album recorded by the best known japanese Big Band outside Japan featuring guitarist Yoshiaki Masuo & trombonist Hiroshi Suzuki. Nobuo Hara was a band leader and saxophonist, one of the man who contributed to the Jazz expansion in Japan. He formed his "Sharps & Flats" in 1951, in which started some future japanese jazz greats such as Koji Suzuki, Norio Maeda or Hiroshi Takeuchi. The big band supported worlwide artists as well as on stage than on studio including Toshiko Akiyoshi, Hozan Yamamoto, Sadao Watanabe, Elvin JonesSarah Vaughan, Oliver NelsonYves Montand. Titles include Jazz standards from Herbie Hancock (Watermelon Man), Ramsey Lewis (The "In" Crowd), Lee Morgan (The Sidewinder), Joe Zawinul (Walk Tall, Mercy, Mercy, Mercy) and covers from Bobby Hebb (Sunny) and The Beatles (A Day In The Life). The Jazz Funk masterpiece of Akira Ishikawa, a joint project with his fellow arranger Hiromasa 'Colgen' Suzuki, featuring his Count Buffalos backing band. With "Get Up!", Akira Ishikawa left Jazz Rock to dive in Jazz Funk enrolling new members among guitarist Takao Naoi, trombonist Eji Arai and trumpeter Koji Hatori. Composed and arranged by Hiromasa Suzuki, the album includes the two heavy funk "The Heated Point" & "Painted Paradise", originally recorded in 1974 for the "Electro Keyboard Orchestra" project & "Funky Stuff" album of saxophonist Jiro Inagaki, the cosmic Soul ballads "Discharge" & "Stone River", the up-tempo "Get Up!" and "Minor Jump".

Jorge Ben - Fôrça Bruta

Considered as one of the most essential album in the Jorge Ben's discography, "Fôrça Bruta" fits into the success decade started from his debut album "Samba Esquema Novo" in 1963. "Fôrça Bruta" moves away the Bossa Nova to join the emerging modern musical movement in Brazil, the Samba Rock, also called Samba Soul, which incorporates Funk/Soul elements from North America including soulful voice and typical rhythm and blues arrangements. With "Fôrça Bruta", Jorge Ben contributed to bring to light on the Trio Mocotó, his backing band from 1969 to 1972, who will become one spearhead of the genre. Hidehiko Matsumoto & His Quintet - This is Blues

Although the title suggests 'blues' album, it's mostly a Soul-Jazz record featuring saxophonist Hidehiko Matsumoto supported by Ushio Sakai (org), Akio Mitsui (tp), Ikuo Shiosaki (g), Kimio Koizumi (b) and Masatsuka Nagashiba (ds). Hidehiko 'Sleepy' Matsumoto was one of the most greatest jazzmen from Japan, an iconic legend who was the first japanese musician invited to the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1963. He was an original member of the legendary japanese jazz quartet "The Big Four" formed by drummer George Kawaguchi, recording in particular "George And Sleepy" in 1969 and "The Big 4" in 1976. At the end of the seventies, he played within the "Inner Galaxy Orchestra" of japanese conductor, Bingo Miki. Titles include in particular jazz standard "St. Louis Blues", the Dixieland "Basin Street Blues", "The Touch" extracted from original soundtrack of 1954 French film "Touchez Pas Au Grisbi", and several original compositions by Matsumoto.

Titles include jazzy instrumentals (Jazz Lesson, That Swing) and various collaborations with worldwide rappers featuring Justis from Canada (Living The Dream), Blezz from Sweden (Trippin') or Voice (I.R.U) & Melodiq (It Is All In Your Mind) from US. "Live & Uncut" was included in the "Optical Axis" mixtape by DJ Ryow in 2009.
