The short-lived band "Assim Assado" was an attempt by a small label to ride on the success of the Brazilian progressive rock group "Secos & Molhados". The band is led by Miguel de Deus (former member of Os Brazões) who signed all the compositions, plays guitar and singing, supported by Darcio Mario Ract (eb), Marciana (vo, eg) and Albino Infantozzi (ds). More than influenced by "Secos & Molhados", they even took name of the eponymous song, and the front cover is a wink of their first album. "Assim Assado" performes a mixture of psychedelic rock and Samba Soul (Viva Crioula, Morena, Sol Amarelocinza) including heavy metal (Na Boca Da Estrada, Lunatica Marciana). Titles include also the rock-waltz "Sombras" and two  reminiscent songs of the Tropicália musical movement ("Sol, Sal, Sol Tropical" and "Pesçados").

Volume 7 of the compilation series dedicated to the essential sound of the Brazil '70, including Latin Jazz, Samba Funk/Soul and MPB. This volume is devoted to the iconic Brazilian maestro of "samba-rock" style (mix of samba with modern music), bringing together his most popular cover songs from "Mas Que Nada" to "Chove Chuva" by "Pais Tropical". It features brazilian all stars musicians such as Gal Costa, Osmar Milito, Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66, Tamba Trio, Bossa Rio, Wilson Simonal and Jorge Ben in charge of the opening and ending songs. Wilson Simonal - Alegria! Alegria! Vol. 4

Last act in the popular "Alegria! Alegria!" album series recorded between 1967-1969, by one of the finest Brazilian singer, including his smash hit "Pais Tropical" composed by his friend Jorge Ben. Since "Vou Deixar Cair" in 1966, Wilson Simonal is supported by the top latin jazz trio "Som Três", his regular backing band until 1969, lead by Cesar Camargo Mariano (p) featuring Sabá (b, vo) & Toninho Pinheiro (ds, vo). "Alegria! Alegria! Vol. 4" is a subtle blend of soulful music with jazz, samba, bossa and latin boogaloo sounds including beautiful strings arrangements directed by maestro Antonio Adolfo. Titles include gorgeous songs among the best ever recorded by Wilson Simonal, "Maquilagem", "Porque Hoje É Domingo", "Brasileira", "Canção Da Criança", "Eu Fui No Tororó", "Que Maravilha" (Jorge Ben), "Adios, Muchachos-Adios".

Som Três is a bossa jazz trio, active from 1966 to 1971, who have offered their services as backing band for Wilson Simonal including "Vou Deixar Cair" (1966) and the "Show Em Simonal" (1967) albums. The group is lead by the renowned brazilian pianist, arranger & producer, César "Camargo" Mariano, who worked for Elis Regina, Chico Buarque, Maria Bethânia, Jorge Ben and international artists such as French Pop songstress, France Gall. César "Camargo" Mariano was also a eminent member of  the Sambalaça Trio (alongside Airto Moreira), one of the most influential jazz samba formation in Brazil. The two others members who formed the trio are bassist Sebastião "Sabá" Oliveira Da Paz on bass &and drummer Antônio "Toninho" Pinheiro, both came from another brazilian jazz samba formation, the Jongo Trio. "Som 3" is a crossover jazz album with latin boogaloo, pop and funk expressions including also the Soul Jazz style on "Blood-Mary" & "There's Gonna Be A "Showdown". Titles include classics soul from the Motown (For Once In My Life, California Soul...), the brazilian standards (Sé Vocé Pensa, Que Pena) and the killer funk "Homenagem A Mongo" composed by Camargo.

Trio Mocotó - Trio Mocotó

Trio Mocotó was formed in 1968, in São Paulo, by three percussionists : Fritz Escovão, Joãozinho Parahyba & Nereu Gargalo. Their music is the result of a Brazilian sounds fusion (samba & bossa) with the American pop, often reduced to the name of "samba rock". But Trio Mocotó is more a synthesis between various musical styles from funk to rock, passing by the jazz, than some samba rock. The trio are mainly known as the Jorge Ben’s backing band, during the zenith of his career (1969-1971), when they took part in his great recordings as the "Força Bruta" & "Negro E Lindo" albums. Titles include the opening track "Desapareça" (a powerful afro-brasileira-samba-funk song), a funny variation of the pop cover "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" (Gotas De Chuva Na Minha Cuíca), and the Latin Jazz songs "Palomares" & "Eu Tou Por For Da Jogada". 

Tribo Massáhi - Estrelando Embaixador

Unconventional brazilian album recorded in 1971, coming from the São Paulo underground music scene, an Holy Grail and ultra rare LP finally reissued by the Brazilian label, Goma Gringa. Back to the african roots for this Brazilian Afro-Psych group formed around seven members, all supported by a rhythm section featuring the 'Embaixador', that refers to the percussionist Sebastião Rosa De Oliveira. The band performs a music between Afrobeat, Afro Soul and Samba Funk, married to the typical African-Brazilian culture. Divided in two parts called "Timolȏ Timodê" on side A and "Lido's Square" on side B, eight tracks played without interruption, including "Walk By Jungle", "Dandara", "Oan" written by Embaixador & "Madrugada Sem Luar" written by Ruy Barbosa.

 

Jorge Ben - A Tabúa De Esmeralda

"A Tabúa De Esmeralda" is a highlight point in the Jorge Ben's career, the first act of a esoteric trilogy, considered as the sixth greatest Brazilian album of all the time. "A Tabúa De Esmeralda" opens a spiritual period for Jorge Ben and a back to the african roots including the climax album "Africa-Brasil" in 1976. It was recorded with the support of famous arrangers Osmar Milito and Hugo Bellard (worked for Tim Maia & Marcos Valle). Titles include only original compositions, in particular, the mystical song "Errare Humanum Est", "Zumbi" (a tribute to a famous brazilian slave leader), the spiritual Soul groove "Brother" and the pure samba "O Namorado Da Viúva".

Jorge Ben - Fôrça Bruta

Considered as one of the most essential album in the Jorge Ben's discography, "Fôrça Bruta" fits into the success decade started from his debut album "Samba Esquema Novo" in 1963. "Fôrça Bruta" moves away the Bossa Nova to join the emerging modern musical movement in Brazil, the Samba Rock, also called Samba Soul, which incorporates Funk/Soul elements from North America including soulful voice and typical rhythm and blues arrangements. With "Fôrça Bruta", Jorge Ben contributed to bring to light on the Trio Mocotó, his backing band from 1969 to 1972, who will become one spearhead of the genre. Titles include the classic "Pulo Pulo", the Soul ballad "O Telefone Tocou Novamente" and the typical Samba Funk "Fôrça Bruta". All tracks composed by Jorge Ben.
