Compilation which focuses on French Jazz including Heavy Funk & Big Band grooves extracted from various Music Library labels and others jazz albums, recorded between 1967-1976, and selected by DJ/producer Michaël Darmon, owner of Kif Recordings (Jazz Liberatorz). Titles include several compositions of Daniel Janin & J.C. Pierric, but also Claude Vasori, Vladimir Cosma, Martial Solal or Vincent Geminiani, two songs featuring Nancy Holloway (Sand And Rain & Hurt So Bad). Most of the tracks have been used in Hip-Hop such as "Black Night" composed by Daniel Janin sampled by The Beanuts on "Muchachacha" or "Trumpet Flower" (Daniel Janinsampled by Nujabes on "Kodama (interlude)" extracted from Impression (Samurai Champloo Music Record).

Produced and arranged by bandleader Joe Cain who contributes to the album with the title-track, "Money Man" and the killer groove "Ghana Spice" (parts 1 & 2). Titles include also cover songs from Richie Havens (I'm On My Way), Booker T & The MG's (Tic Tac Toe), Joe Garland (Serenade To A Savage) and Gamble & Huff (Hey, Western Union Man). "Beautiful" reissue was included in the Blue Note's rare groove series started in 1995.

Brother Jack McDuff & David Newman - Double Barrelled Soul

McDuff meets David 'Fathead' Newman on this great Atlantic record featuring Melvin Sparks, Leo JohnsonAbe Blasingame and Danny Turner. Mc Duff played in group The Honeydripper in 1961 with tenor saxophonist Jimmy Forrest and guitarist Grant Green, launched the career of the young George Benson (The New Boss Guitar, 1964) while David 'Fathead' Newman played in Ray Charles band in the fifties and on Herbie Mann' Hold on I'm Coming (live in New York & Montreux Festival in 1972). Titles include But It's Alright by Soul Singer J.J. Jackson, nice version of Bobby Hebb' Sunny, the awesome pefect groove Duffin' Around and More Head by Newman.

Always supported by his supergroup "Sound Limited" featuring pianist/arranger Norio Maeda, Takeshi Inomata takes over some incredelible rock songs including terrific variations on the "Runaway Child" of Buddy Miles, "Smack Water Jack" (composed by Quincy Jones for Carole King) and "Child Of Storm"/"Fibonacci's Number" of British band "IF". Yuji Ohno - Y.O. Connection

The second album of Yuji Ohno released for his new "LUPINTIC" label featuring the Lupintic Five group, including featurings and guest musicians among bassist Akira Okazawa, vibrationist Takashi Ooi, brazilian songstress Sonia Rosa, brothers Masami & Ejiro Nakagawa from Pretty Good, all supported by the Masatsugu Shinohara strings group. Titles include the cover "Theme From M.A.S.H." taken from the original soundtrack, jazz standards such as "How High The Moon" by Nancy Hamilton or "Five Spot After Dark" by Benny Golson, the classic of Bossa Nova "Desafinado" from Antonio Carlos Jobim and the traditional Russian Gypsy song "Dark Eyes" popularized in 1940 by Django Reinhart (in french "Les Yeux Noirs"). Yoshiaki Masuo And His Group - Winds Of Barcelona

Debut album in the Montgomery's style from the japanese boss of guitar featuring Kiyoshi Sugimoto, Kazuo Yashiro, Larry Sunaga,  Yoshio Suzuki & Fumio Watanabe from the Takehiro Honda Trio. Influenced by Wes Montgomery and the Grant Green's works, Yoshiaki Masuo has been spotted by saxophonist Sadao Watanabe who launched his professional career in joining up his quartet from 1967. In the late sixties, he was enrolled in the Sharps & Flats by band leader Nobuo Hara and played for pianist Takehiro Honda on his debut album within Sadao Watanabe Quartet. In 1971, he moved to New York where he played for his fellow countryman bassist Teruo Nakamura, prestigious musicians like Lenny White, Michael Brecker, Chick Korea or Elvin Jones, and later in 1973 within the Sonny Rollins group. Titles include pop cover songs by Laura Nyro (Stoned Soul Picnic), Simon & Garfunkel (Scarborough Fair), Bacharach & David  (I Say A Little Prayer, What The World Needs Now Is Love), tribute to Wes Montgomery (One For Wes) and the Sadao's Bossa tune "Gary's Tune".
