Norio Maeda & All Stars - Rock Communication "Yagi Bushi"

Year : 2017/1970
Label : HMV Record Shop/Teichiku Records
Sub-Label : Deep Jazz Reality
Genre : Jazz, Folk
Style : Fusion, Jazz Rock

Genius arranger, master of japanese avant-garde (check his album Revolution), the pianist Norio Maeda revisits some popular standards of the japanese folk (as the similar project of Akira Ishikawa, "Drum Yagibushi Drum") featuring Kiyoshi Sugimoto, Kaoru Iiyoshi, Takeshi Inomata, Tetsuo Fushimi & Shigeo Suzuki. During the late sixties and the early seventies, Norio Maeda collaborated as well as arranger and pianist to a wide variety of jazz rock albums for eminent musicians among others : Jiro Inagaki (This Is Jazz Rock - 1968), Akira Ishikawa (Bakinshinba - 1970) or Takeshi Inomata (Drum Method - 1972). This ambitious work mixing skillfully the japanese folk repertoire with psychedelic rock and straight-ahead jazz arrangements. Rock Communication was recorded the same year as the Inomata's Sounds Of Sound L.T.D., and can be see as its extension ("Aizu Bandai San" is the perfect example) .
