Naphta Newman is a british rapper, producer and owner of Whashington Classics label. He released his debut album "Classic Was The Day" in 1997 and recorded various songs with the japanese Hip-Hop producer Nujabes for Hyde Out Productions, bringing him to regularly tour in Japan thereafter. His influences include De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Gang Starr but also R&B artists, and performed opening acts for The Roots, Eminem or Destiny’s Child during their European tour. "Blackcurrent Jazz" is the meeting of Hip-Hop and Jazz with its interpolations, including the swing style, as evidenced the samples used by Newman in particular on "Confused?" or "Keeping It Classic". Titles include also featurings with Guile on "Wonderful", Sienna on "The Music") and "High Endurance" produced by DJ Parris. This album exists in enhanced edition including three bonus tracks especially released for Japan ("Turntables Hate Me", "It Still Rocks", "Long Remix").
