The third album of the band and the first for Columbia.  Maurice White is back with a completely revamped group (exept his brother Verdine), he recruits  Ronnie Laws (brother of jazz flautist Hubert Laws),  Larry Dunn, Philipp Bailey and others. The cover is designed by renowed artist Mati Klarwein (also author of cover art Miles Davis' Bitches Brew 1970). Rhythm & Blues, Funk and Psychedelic Soul with short Free Jazz interludes arranged by Earth, Wind & Fire

Jane Birkin - Serge Gainsbourg

Serge Gainsbourg at his summit with this Baroque pop album, his ninth LP, the first recorded with Jane Birkin (a half album Serge Gainsbourg/Jane Birkin) which alternates songs sung by him, by Jane and by both. This emblem of the french Pop was recorded at the prestigious studio Chappell (track 2 & 6) and Fontana (track 1, 2 to 5 and 7 to 10) in London at the end of 1968. Titles includes the big hit, the Gainsbourg's anthem, Je T'Aime... Moi Non Plus (first recorded in duet with Brigitte Bardot in 1967 but never released), new versions of L'Anamour (first written for french singer Françoise Hardy), Sous Le Soleil Exactement (sings by Anna Karina in 1967) and  Les Sucettes (written for France Gall in 1966). Music composed by Serge Gainsbourg except  Jane B by Chopin (Prélude n°4 op.28) and Elisa by Michel Colombier.  Arranged & conducted by Arthur Greensdale except Elisa & Manon  arranged by Michel Colombier.

Not the most interesting album of Bernard 'Pretty' Purdie but note the collaboration of lyricist, singer/rapper, Gil Scott Heron on Artificialness (a letter to Richard Nixon). Among The Playboys featuring in this album, are Chuck Rainey (bass), Cornell Dupree (guitar), Harold Wheeler (keys) and Norman Pride (bongos & congas). Bernard "Pretty" Purdie lends his voice on Stand By Me & It's Too Lateothers titles includes variation of Modern Jive & On The Outskirts Of MinitownWhatcha See Is Whatcha Get and Funky Mozart (based on Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major). Arranged & conducted by Harold Wheeler, produced by Bob Thiele.
