Serge Gainsbourg - Vu De L'Extérieur

Year : 1973
Label : Philips
Genre : Rock
Style : Pop, Funk/Soul

Second concept album of Serge Gainsbourg incorporating poetry, onomatopoeia based on scatology & childishness themes, sounds from the Progressive Rock genre and some borrowings to Funk/Soul music. This is likewise his first collaboration with arranger/keyboardist Alan Hawkshaw featuring a line-up entirely british : Brian Odgers from Apollo 100 or  session drummer Dougie Wright. As the pioneering and innovative Melody Nelson album, Vu De l'Extérieur was a commercial failure, however the 45rpm single "Je Suis Venu Te Dire Que Je M'en Vais (based on Paul Verlaine's poetry)/ Vu De L'Extérieur" released the same year, was a big hit in France. All tracks composed by Serge Gainsbourg, recorded at Phonogram Studio, London, except the voices & mixing at Studio Des Dames, Paris.
